State-Level Plots

Plots displaying state-level trends (US) for capital punishment. Like in the national plots, the y-axes of the first two plots are different races and the x-axes represent time. Each dot represents an execution that took place - the more solid the color is of bunched up dots, the more frequent or concentrated they are at that point (increase in frequency).

Notes on State Plots

The following points are in regards to the prior plots and what could be determined from them.

  • National trends exemplified in state samples

    • States demonstrate trends that are in line with the national ones; large disparity in who is being executed, racially speaking

  • Federal Executions stopped before 2005 and then surged after 2020
